Art Show at the Oriskany Library
Everyone is invited to my solo show during the month of May at the Oriskany Library in Oriskany, NY. I am busily having things framed, writing up labels, doing a price list and other such stuff. This is my first show of this magnitude. The library manager is planning lots of promotion. She is great!
The reception is Thursday May 7, from 6-8 pm. I will provide some goodies to munch on. I plan to post some photos after I set up on 4/28 since I know most of you are not from around these parts.
Here is a new painting I did for show. It is a watercolor on 140 lb. paper. My Christmas cactus has always bloomed whenever it pleased - Easter time this year. I can't complain because even I can't kill the darn thing. I definitely do NOT have a green thumb.

A new kind of artwork!
This piece was done for a 'Green' show at the Rome Art and Community Center. I had such fun doing it! I painted the palette and the golden artist tube of paint as well as the background. I then added the items we artists often discard: flecks of dried paint, spent tubes, worn brush and some long forgotten ACEO's (Art cards, editions and originals). The canvas was a 25 cent find at a garage sale!
I used some really great glue for this called E-6000 - industrial strenght and dries clear. I love it! I can pick this canvas up by one of the paint tubes!
Artists are tasked to create a recylcled work of art as you interpret it.

This is a new idea in art promotion and sales. I was asked to join and write a review on my blog.
This is a site for art and crafters. Part social networking, part portfolio/sales. I like the simplicity of the site, both in presentation and use. This is a great site for beginners or those, like me, that don't want to spend time coding HTML.
This is the statement on the site itself 'This is MyArtPlot - one platform for all.
MAP is an essential part of any creative life. It brings together the art profession into one global point of contact and interaction. Social, professional, and commercial power thrive here. Everyday - artists, crafters, and supporters use MAP to interact with those around them and around the world. Most go by their real first and last names. MAP is functional to you as a paint brush is to a painter or a camera is to a photographer - it enables you. This is why people take ownership of their Plot (personal MAP page). '
The presentation is very clean and lets the art take center stage. It may be simple to use, but it does have some powerful features. I really like the automatic bi-weekly newsletters. Subscribers will receive automatic updates to your plot on a bi-weekly basis and you don't have to lift a finger.
A product called Banner is also available. Banner is a powerful marketing tool. When embedded across the internet, it becomes an ad for your Plot. When someone clicks on it, it will bring them to your Plot. The best thing is: Whenever you change your Plot's Banner, the change will automatically appear whereever the embedded code may sit! You can also track where your banners are embedded and see how many people have visited your Plot from there. To control, where your banner is embedded, you can disable or re-enable your banner from any of its location.
I can see this being a very powerful site if it can increase in popularity. The creators really seem to be behind it every step of the way. You can even talk to them personally via live chat using the Help feature.
The site is free with voluntary subscriptions available. There is a 5% commission on all sales that is mandatory of you don't have a subscription. I really see no reason not to give it a go at this early stage. You may be getting in on the ground floor of something revolutionary.
The down side is having one more place to keep current and update on a regular basis.

It has been awhile!
I have been busy with Ebay and Etsy and Facebook and ....
I just added a bunch of new items to my Etsy shop http://artbylmr.etsy.com/. I ordered some of my work from CafePress to sell on Etsy. I also have a copy of 'Art on a Plate' the ACEO cookbook for sale. I have my scrumpcious caramel apple cake in there with an ACEO portrait that will make your mouth water. Are you hungry yet?
I also tried my hand at making some glass magnets. They turned out great and I have a set of 3 on sale for only $5.oo. I plan to make more. I just love the tiny reproductions of my artwork.

Work in Progress Done!
I know this took way to long. I had some other projects going on so I would sneek this in here and there. I still may do some tweeking, but it is essentially done. If you scroll down for previous posts you can see some 'in progress' photos. I also included the reference photo used to paint from.
I think I still may lighten up some flowers/leaves faceing the sun and adjust one of the window mouldings for perspective, but you can get the idea! I just noticed that I didn't finish the pumpkin stems - OOPS! So I still need to do that.
This one was a challenge! I had to darken the values of the entire piece from the photo so I could keep the magenta color without going too pink in the light. I also kept the hanging petunia looking more alive than the photo. Let's just pretend it is earlier in the fall when they were healthier.
Thanks for all your kind comments on this as I went along! I need to take a better photo too - the colors are so much better in the painting.
