I call this piece 'Autumn Ivy'  It is a piece I did for the 2015 Twitter Art Exhibit in Moss, Norway.  It is on its journey to Norway right now.  If you haven't heard of the Twitter Art Exhibit - it is a great concept and really fun show.  It is open to artists and amateurs alike - no jury process.  All art is donated and all proceeds go to a selected charity which changes each year as does the location.  If you are interested in participating, please visit The call for artists page.  Deadline for submissions is  March 1, 2015.

Old Canoe is an award winning painting with 2 Ribbons!

Here I am with my painting 'Old Canoe' at the Regional Art show at the Rome Art and Community Center (Rome , NY that is :))  I was surprised to see that I won two awards since I did not get a call.  I was at the center and took a sneak peek at the show and was thrilled!  Of course, I went to the opening that night to get my certificates.  I'll get the ribbons at the end of the show!

I got a Place award and a special award from the Jervis Library.  These special awards are the best, because, to the person choosing them, this piece was the 'Best of Show'!  Thanks so much to the judges!

Finished WIP "Old Canoe' Fall painting

'Old Canoe'  14 x 11" on Ampersand Gessobord

Photo of the finished piece.  It is at the scanners so I will have a better pic for making prints.  I am not a very good photographer so I get them scanned so customers can order large prints that will be crisp and clear.  The colors in the original piece are brighter - especially the canoe.

I love fall and painting fall scenes.  This reference photo was courtesy of Wet Canvas, a great tool for artists with no strings attached.  People have told me that I like bright colors.  I guess I do if that is what the piece calls for.  I can just as easily use more subdued colors for the right painting.  Check out 'Pont Vecchio Landscape' below.  This painting is from a photo taken on a dark day in the morning.  Visit  http://lynne-reichhart.artistwebsites.com/ to purchase prints of this piece.  Prints of 'Old Canoe' will be available shortly once I get the scanned image back.

Thanks for visiting and come back next week for a new installment~

Fall camp scene sneak peak work in progress!

Work in Progress!

I found the reference for this piece on Wet Canvas in their reference library for artists.  It is a great place to find reference photos that members have graciously allowed anyone to use, no strings attached. I typically use my own photos, but I really liked this one.  I loved that the canoe was all scuffed up and that the old building had a bright fresh coat of paint.   What you don't see is all the fall leaves and long grass that are still to come.  I am plugging away at it though.  I was happy to get the canoe done since that is really the focal point.  My picture doesn't do it justice - it really pops!

Here is a look at the reference so you can see what is to come.  I did change the red of the building a bit so that the canoe would stand out more.  Also, it was the same color as some of the leaves.  I suspect there were some photoshop changes involved to pump up the color.

I'll post the final version when I am finished.  Thanks for looking and feel free to comment with what you think.

My new painting is done! Hot off the easel!

I finally finished this painting.  I am calling it 'My Favorite Spot'.  It was a challenge in many ways.  The foliage was very intricate and really a big part of the painting so I was more detailed than usual.  The chair is the main event though along with the shadows and light on the deck and railing.

As I mentioned in previous posts - this is at my camp in northern NY.  We added this new deck on the side of the cabin and it is so private tucked in among the trees.  I love to take a beverage and a book out there to relax.  If  you missed my previous posts then, by all means scroll down to see this piece in various stages of completion.   If you are a painter then you know that there are some points in the paining process that are just down right ugly!  You have to persevere past that stage to get to the good stuff!

Work in Progress Done!

I know this took way to long. I had some other projects going on so I would sneek this in here and there. I still may do some tweeking, but it is essentially done. If you scroll down for previous posts you can see some 'in progress' photos. I also included the reference photo used to paint from.

I think I still may lighten up some flowers/leaves faceing the sun and adjust one of the window mouldings for perspective, but you can get the idea! I just noticed that I didn't finish the pumpkin stems - OOPS! So I still need to do that.

This one was a challenge! I had to darken the values of the entire piece from the photo so I could keep the magenta color without going too pink in the light. I also kept the hanging petunia looking more alive than the photo. Let's just pretend it is earlier in the fall when they were healthier.

Thanks for all your kind comments on this as I went along! I need to take a better photo too - the colors are so much better in the painting.

Work in Progress~! Fall market!

I just love Fall subjects. This is a local Farmers Market that sells all the usual fall goodies including all kinds of apples! Yes, it really is painted that color! As you can see, I have a pretty good start on it. I tried to paint the wall gradually getting duller as it gets farther back - same goes for the pumpkins and flowers. This pic really isn't very good - the pumpkins really glow. I used a bit of blue in the highlight - complimentary colors work great as highlights!

Now, I decided to work on the reflections in the glass. They were quite detailed. I paid more attention to the detail closer to the viewer. This took quite a bit of time and I still need to do more on the reflections. I may need to dull the close one a bit so it doesn't look like you are seeing through the glass. I also may need to adjust the colors and brightness once I add the trim color which is next on the agenda. I also worked on the open door area. That may need darkening a bit later. Everything is in relation to the other colors so I want to get the trim on before I adjust anything else. FYI that big blob in the middle will be a large hanging petunia basket - kind of looks like an octopus right now:)

New Fall Painting!

Here is a new painting of a church in upstate NY (South Colton to be exact). Nice fall piece with shadows I could not pass up! I love the contrast of light and dark in this one.
The original is in a shop, but I am offering fine art reproductions in my etsy shop. Please take a peek.

I keep some pieces in a great shop in South Colton. It is called the Adirondack Artisan Shop. They represent over 100 local artisans and have a nice location at the foot of the beautiful Adirondack mountains in South Colton. If you are in the area be sure to check it out! I am hoping this local subject will get me another sale!

Finally Larger Art

Well, I finally worked on a larger piece, at least larger for me. This one is an 8X10 acrylic painting. That's huge in my book. It is painted from a photo I took last winter on the Barge Canal in Utica, NY. It was such a clear sunny day that the shadows were spectacular.

I am offering it in my Cafepress shop so you can purchase a lovely framed print or you can contact me if you are interested in the original. You can check it out here under 'Fine Art': http://www.cafepress.com/artgiftsbylmr

Fall, to me, means yardwork. I need to get my butt outside to rake and weed and cut down dead things. Luckily it has been raining so I have an excuse for procrastinating. I did get the halloween decorations out yesterday. Anyone else starting to rival Christmas with their Halloween stuff? My husband just loves Halloween so we do it up right. It took me all afternoon and then some to decorate.

Happy Haunting!
