History of a Rock concert goer - prices sure have changed!

I have saved my concert tickets for as long as I can remember.  I put them in this 30 year old photo album that has ended up being a history of ticket prices as well as wonderful memories.  Check out Paul McCartney for only $34 in 1989.  This is a random page from the album.  I think the most interesting is The Rolling Stones in 1981 for only $15 (not shown).  That also included Journey and George Thorogood!

I remember my first concert was Orleans and Melissa Manchester at a local venue.  My Mom had to take me because I wasn't old enough to drive.  Poor Mom ended up taking me to many shows near and far.  I lived on the Canadian border so I heard and loved a lot of Canadian music.  She crossed the border to take me and a girlfriend to many a show not to mention the treks to Canadian record stores to purchase favs not available in the US.   Ottawa and Toronto get lots of big US names too!

I still love going to concerts.  The most recent was Justin Hayward from the Moody Blues just a couple weeks ago.  I must admit that I am seeing the acts that are no longer in the big arenas anymore, but they are still rockin' after all these years as am I :)

A Trip in the Way Back Machine or How to Decorate a Teenager Girl's room in the 70's

I came across this photo and boy did it bring back memories!   You can still see tape residue on the paneling.  Get a load of that lamp!  My mother just recently took it down to put up a ceiling fan.  I wish I had gotten a hold of it - could have been a good Ebay item :)

Do you recognize anyone on the wall?   Let's see - I see Rick Springfield (sigh), Alice Cooper, Seals and Crofts, Mick Jagger, Barbra Streisand, David Bowie and a huge poster of Gilbert O'Sullivan.  I really didn't know it was that big when I ordered it :)  In the upper right hand corner there is a painting I did of Michael Sarrazin, an actor,  He was a cutie.  I painted and drew lots of my favs in my teens.  I never realized I would eventually become a full time artist, it was just a lot of fun.

I was a night owl.  In the summer I would stay up until 2:00 AM painting and listening to music.  I would love to hear your memories of your teenage room.  Feel free to comment and Thanks for reading!

Some Favorite things for a Still Life painting

I received an email from the ArtistsNetwork posing an interesting question.  

If you were to set up a still life in homage to someone, who would it be, and what would you include?  I know there are many people I would love to pay homage to.  I gave this some thought and my Grandfather gave me some of my most prize possessions as a child.  You can see a couple of them in the pic above.  This is by no means a still life arrangement, but these are two of my favorite things.

 

My grandfather worked at a Grand Union in upstate New York.  He was a produce manager and let me play in the employees only areas and that made me feel special.  He got some of the coolest things from the store. He would bring me home displays and and big letters that spelled Grand Union.  One of a kind stuff!

 

Do any of you remember the old 60's Sci Fi show Lost in Space.  They actually sold the robot toy from that show at the store.  Grandpa got me one of these toys made by Remco and it is very collectible today.  Mine is still in good shape, but does not move forward like it used to.  I have thought about selling it, but I just can't seem to let go.

My grandfather also brought home a set of the original Schultz and Dooley steins made for Utica Club Beer.  Once I got older in high school he gave the steins to me, because he know I really liked them.  The original 5,000 sets of Schultz & Dooley steins were marked, respectively, as follows, both under the handle and on the base.© THE WEST END BREWING CO.UTICA, N.Y. 59-CSM      Mine are from that original batch. I treasure them as well.

Rmember the 60's

I wanted to use some of my favorite memories for a still life and this is the result. I had the lava lamp in my room as a teen and always used my my Panasonic Panapet radio when ruining my skin suntanning before we knew about the dangers of the sun. I had many sunburned backs while laying on a hill on our farm where noone could see me - just me and my Panapet.

The best of the 3 is my 'Lost in Space' Robot that my grandfather got me from the Grand Union he worked at, believe it or not. He surprised me with it and I treasure it now that he is gone. These little babies go for big bucks on ebay, but I just can't part with it.

This is a 9 x 12 watercolor still life. I am selling prints on Etsy because the original has been accepted in a juried show for the Central NY Watercolor Society.
