Well, except for a couple coats of sealer. I wanted to show the ocean in bright and vibrant colors, almost as a fantasy world. The hubcap I received fit right in to that scenario by looking a bit like a port hole anyway. I played that up with gold paint. This was a fun project and I hope it will also do some good.
Since I was involved in this project, I did a bit of research and found that there is a section of the Pacific ocean known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch that is estimated to be double the size of Texas. The area contains more than 3 million tons of plastic. You can read more about it here: http://www.greatgarbagepatch.org/
Upcycling, repurposing, call it what you will. It is a great idea.

Nice hubcap! I haven't heard back, but I did apply to get one too, when I saw it on your blog. Thank you for your nice comments on my blog! And that link about using the ocean as a trash dump is alarming. I just watched Jurassic Park with my kids tonight - Humans are always making things worse, aren't we!
This is fantastic!!!! It really does look like your peering through a porthole doesn't it! Congrats on a job well done!
What a great piece!! You really finished this fast, too. I hope to get to see more of these creations here and there.
That's cool! It IS like a porthole in a ship. And I've heard that about the big dumb in the Pacific too. Thanks for helping make everyone aware.
That's so beautiful! I love the gold and blue, very nice!

You guys are soooo nice!
